Why Tintypes?

Wet plate Collodion is one of the oldest forms of photography. It is all alchemy as the photographer (me) makes a metal plate light sensitive using old chemical processes. From there, I am able to capture a portrait with a pop of light. It creates a magical reflective portrait that almost moves when you look at it. Your tintype will last forever so your future ancestors will be able to see what their family was like in the 21st century.

Before the Shoot..

We will talk about what your goal is for the shoot. We will set up a date and time and I will send you some tips and a questionaire.

During the Shoot..

This is where the fun begins! While jammin’ to some music (with songs that get you confident!), I will help guide you in capturing all the best things that make you, you. I will explain the whole process to you and you will be able to see the magic of the medium.

After the Session…

I will take the plates home with me to varnish them. This makes sure that the image is protected and will last so that your ancestors will get to see them. Then I will scan them and send you a digital copy. I will package the tintypes up and mail them to you or we can set up a day for pickup.

Porch Session

Two 5x7 tintypes. I will photograph you in your own space with my portable darkroom set up.
